May 6th

Fourteen of them,
fiery determination in their eyes

but I wasn’t there

Hands chained together,
sweat on their brows

but I wasn’t there

Hot concrete on their backs,
traffic at a halt

but I wasn’t there

Dozens more surrounded them,
chanting with picket signs

but I wasn’t there

They are out now,
and the fight goes on

I stand with them,
always,
even when
I am not
with them.
