poetic license

The thing about poetry is that it can be fiction and nonfiction at once. For the sake of the poem, for the sake of the words, for the sake of the feeling, sometimes things are exaggerated, or minimized, or omitted altogether. For the sake of the feeling.

The terms of the poem, the details– they can be fiction. But the feeling– the feeling has to be true.

But ultimately, that’s subjective, too, isn’t it?

Ah, poetry.
