light

let the blinds stay open
let the morning air drift in
let neighbors’ voices (even their lawnmowers’) be the alarm

no more hiding
no more ducking under covers
wishing for one more hour

there is a thing
inside us that
resists gravity
and the night

listen.

“can i have a…?”

hold out for fire,
hope to see a spark ignite
happy for a crutch
