if, then

we will conduct
our love affair
in poetry

i will be the
Abelard to
your Heloise

our kisses
will take form
in verse only

i will feel
your embrace
in warm vowels

we will argue
in sharp
consonants

rhyme and meter
will be our
lovemaking

if that is all
we can have,
so be it.
