Until you reach your shore

You will land, someday

You will find yourself at
a certain dock where
there will be a mooring post waiting
ready to catch your line

Your anchor will drop into the
sea with a quiet, satisfying gurgle
drift slowly down, down, down

You will leap from the deck,
land with a thud upon
solid ground, sea legs
startled by the lack of motion

Your steps will be unsteady at first,
you’ll walk in slow rediscovery of earth,
unsure of your direction

And then, one day, you will find your stride
and you will run and jump and skip
with exuberance and certainty

until the next ship comes in
sailing on some distant, irresistible wind
and you find yourself running to the dock
ready to set off again.
