the unkindness of distance, 1

our bodies travel farther
faster than our hearts,
which do not understand

it is never easy to leave
familiar ground, however simple
it might be for hands to pack
bags and feet to walk onto the
train platform, the airport terminal

climes and landscapes shift
leaving us standing alone,
forlornly facing all possibilities
wishing to never have to
choose.
