Transition

Transition

I had to peel my eyes
from the ground
beneath my feet,
crane my neck upward,
relax my hunched shoulders,
raise my chin,
and look up,
look around,

Stop standing
gingerly in one place,
lift rocks from my path,
peek past tree branches,
sneak glances beneath the bushes,
see the hawks in the sky.

Had to look up,
look around,
see where I stood,
remember where
I meant to go

and, now,
go there

or, at least,
try to.
